Caglio is an Italian country in the province of Como, inside the Triangolo Lariano area. A Sanctuary, dedicated to Madonna del Latte, is to be visited. The sanctuary is of medieval origin, it was rebuilt since 1500 till 1700. Frescos on the archway have been made during that period.
At the beginning of XV century the viscounts in Milan gave that territory to Dal Verme feudal family. In the XVI century it was conquered by French, then it was again under Italian possession with Sforza family. The feud was given to Sfondrati family then again under Austrian possession.
Caglio is an autonomous country since 1947. The historical center, that leads downwards to Rezzago direction, is an open-air museum. During summer paintings by Segantini are exhibited.

The painter was born in Arco, in the province of Trento. He was a lonely and vagabond figure who also had negative experiences, for that he was confined in the reformatory Marchiondi, which he escaped from. He was entrusted to his half-brother Napoleone who ran a photo lab, where Giovanni was used to work as a boy during the day. Here he came in touch with his self talent. Then he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan for 3 years during evening.
