MADONNA DEL BOSCO - ENGLISH

In Imbersago, in the province of Lecco, there’s a beautyful Sanctuary named to Madonna del Bosco, after a long flight of steps. In ancient times it was called Madonna del Riccio because of a miracle happened on the 9th May 1617, when chestnuts ripened. But people had also heard divine music and seen heavenly splendor from then on.
So pilgrimages had began in Valletta del Lupo (the name of the location).
A cross was leaned on the miracle chestnut tree, then a picture of a ripened chestnut.
Some miracles had began: a child had been saved from a wolf aggression.
People made a chapel called Lo Scurolo. Then the Sanctuary had been made, but with heavy difficulties because of the height of the location, there weren’t any roads to bring up row materials for the building.
The Sanctuary was benedicted on the 9th May 1646. On the 29th of August 1954 Cardinal Angelo Roncalli, then Pope Giovanni XXIII, crowned the statue of the Madonna with the Holy Child. He was very devoted to Madonna del Bosco.
All those who climb up along the holy flight steps (349 steps) can see the statue of Pope Giovanni XXIII (it’s 4 m. high and weighs 30 q.)
Also Cardinal Schuster was devoted to the Madonna del Bosco. There’s still his chamber with cloths and furnishings.
